COFFMAN RACING FORMULA DRIFT NEW JERSEY 2018 RECAP
Formula Drift Round 4 wrapped up in New Jersey on June 2, marking the halfway point for the season. In 2017 Matt Coffman had finished 4th place in New Jersey, so the team came to this event ready for redemption.
Coffman was confident in qualifying. The car is fast around the track on Achilles 123s tires. His first run was scored 79 and his second was scored 81. Coffman qualified 21st putting him against his former trailer mate Ryan Tuerck for top 32.
In competition Coffman followed on the first run. While giving chase on the bank Coffman's foot slipped off the clutch pedal while grabbing the E-brake, this caused the engine to stall. Coffman punched the clutch, restarting the car and continued to chase Tuerck, but now Tuerck had a major advantage. Coffman gave a solid lead run with Tuerck following. Tuerck made no mistakes and was awarded the win.
It’s frustrating for the weekend to end in Top 32, but the team made the best of the situation and sat together in the grandstands to watch the rest of the competition. Thanks to all our friends, fans, and sponsors who supported us this weekend.
Our next event is Round 5, in Washington on July 20-21. We hope to see you there!
